Kahoot works at a wedding. It runs a live quiz on the big screen, guests answer on their phones, and a leaderboard ends in a podium. Kahoot even has a page and templates for it. Before you pick it, check two things: how many guests will play, and whether you are happy paying for a subscription to use it for one evening.
The facts below come from Kahoot’s own wedding page and its personal pricing page, as they read on 9 October 2026. Plans and prices change, so look again before you buy.
What Kahoot does well at a reception
Plenty of guests have played Kahoot at school or at work, so the MC hardly has to explain anything. That counts for a lot in a room of 150 people who have had a glass of wine.
Joining is easy. According to Kahoot’s wedding page, guests scan a QR code or go to kahoot.it and type the game PIN, on their own phones, with no app or download. Players do not need a Kahoot subscription of their own.
You do not have to start from a blank page. Kahoot offers wedding templates such as “How much do you know about the happy couple?” and “Who did what: Wedding edition”, and it can draft starting questions with AI. Besides multiple choice, you get polls and word clouds, adjustable time limits and double-point questions, and the game ends on a podium.
Kahoot’s own advice for weddings is sensible, too: keep the game to about 10 to 15 minutes and have someone host it and read the questions aloud. That matches what we suggest in our guide to running wedding trivia on the big screen.
Where it falls short for a wedding
The free plan stops at 10 players
Kahoot’s pricing page says you can host a kahoot for free with up to 10 players. That is enough for a test at home or a small dinner, and nowhere near a reception. The paid personal plans raise the limit in steps: 50, 100, 200 or 800 participants, depending on the tier.
Count the people who will play, not everyone you invited. A couple can share a phone and join as one player, and small children usually watch. For a wedding of 150 guests you would likely need the 200-participant tier, and above 200 players only the largest tier fits.
It is a subscription
Every paid personal plan on the pricing page renews, monthly or yearly. We found no one-off event pass. The “from $3 a month” on the wedding page is the entry price for the smallest paid tier, the one capped at 50 participants. The lower per-month figures on the pricing page are for yearly billing, so if you only need Kahoot for one evening, compare the monthly price for your tier and set a reminder to turn off renewal after the wedding.
It looks like Kahoot
Kahoot has its own bright game-show look, the one many guests know from classrooms and office training. Paid tiers let you add a custom background and logo; the free plan uses the free themes only. Whether that matters is up to you. Some couples like the familiar feel, and others want the screen to match the rest of the day.
It is a quiz tool for everything
Kahoot is built for quizzes of every kind, from schools to companies. The wedding part is the questions you write or the templates you start from. Nothing on the screen is about the two of you unless you put it there.
Kahoot, a paper quiz or a wedding quiz tool
| Paper quiz at the tables | Kahoot | Say Kampai | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How guests join | A sheet and a pen per table | QR code, or the PIN at kahoot.it | QR code, or a short code in the browser |
| App needed | No | No | No |
| Free for | Any number (you print the sheets) | Up to 10 players | Up to 5 players, as a test |
| A reception of 150 | Free, apart from printing | A paid plan with room for 200 | $49 if bought 30+ days before the wedding, $69 after |
| How you pay | Nothing to pay | Subscription, monthly or yearly | One payment for the wedding |
| Scores | Marked by hand | Counted automatically | Counted automatically |
| The couple on screen | No | Only if you add it | Both of you as illustrated characters from your photos |
| Internet needed | No | Yes | Yes |
A paper quiz is still a good choice for a small wedding in a venue with no signal. Marking the sheets takes ten minutes, so start it before dessert and announce the winners after.
If you use Kahoot, set it up like this
- Build the kahoot a week or two before the wedding, from a template or from scratch. Ten questions is plenty.
- Pick the plan by the number of players, and check the participant limit again before you pay.
- Rehearse with a few friends on the laptop you will use on the day.
- At the venue, turn off sleep and notifications on the laptop and test the WiFi from the farthest table.
- Ask guests to join with their real first name and last initial, so the podium means something to the room.
- Have the MC read every question and answer aloud for the back tables.
- If you only needed it once, turn off the renewal afterwards.
Where Say Kampai fits
Say Kampai is a live quiz made only for weddings, and it opens soon. Guests join the same way, by scanning a QR code and playing in the browser. The differences are the ones in the table: you pay once for the wedding with no subscription, any number of guests can play once you pay, and the two of you are on the screen as characters made from your photos, reacting as the answers come in. You can test the full game free with up to five players.
Whichever tool you use, you still need good questions. Our list of wedding quiz questions about the couple has 60 to start from, and the wedding reception games for guests page covers what else to play that evening, like the shoe game.
